Selling under 1,000 followers: the link in bio problem

The clickable link in your TikTok bio doesn’t only depend on your follower count — it depends on the type of your account. On a personal account, TikTok keeps the “Website” field for accounts that have reached 1,000 followers. On a Business account — free, switched on from the app’s settings — that field shows up with no follower minimum. It’s the shortest route, and it’s the one most creators are looking for without knowing it exists.

Two warnings before you switch. A Creator account is not a Business account: it doesn’t open the field, and that’s the mistake behind most “I did everything and it still doesn’t work”. And the Business account has a real trade-off: your sound library gets limited to commercial-use music. Until then, a pinned comment is the only reliable way to hand out your address. The steps are below.

Why your link isn’t showing up

Three causes, in the order you should rule them out. The first two take a minute; the third explains most of the “I’ve tried everything”.

  1. 1 You’re on a personal account, under the threshold

The “Website” field simply isn’t there in the “Edit profile” screen. It isn’t greyed out — there’s no field at all. If you can see your address as plain, non-clickable text, you typed it into the bio description instead of the dedicated field — and an address in the description is never clickable, whatever your follower count.
  2. 2 You switched to a Creator account, not a Business one

Both are called “pro account” in settings, and only the second opens the field without a follower condition. This is the most expensive confusion on this page: it makes the whole switch look pointless.
  3. 3 You did it from a browser

Editing your profile on tiktok.com doesn’t offer the same fields as the app. Do it from your phone, then open your public profile — not the edit screen — to check the address actually turned into a link.

What this rule is worth, and until when. It was read on 16 September 2026 from public sources, not from a TikTok contract. The threshold has moved before, it varies by country, and some personal accounts see the field earlier. So the only check that counts is the one in your own app, and it takes twenty seconds: open “Edit profile” and look for a “Website” line. If this page ever says something your screen contradicts, your screen is right.

Unlocking the field in three minutes

  1. 1 First, check whether you already have the field

Profile → Edit profile. If there’s a “Website” line, you have nothing to change: paste your address and skip to the rest of this article. No reason to switch to Business for a field you already have.
  2. 2 Switch to a Business account

Menu ⋮ (or ☰) → Settings and privacy → Account → Switch to Business Account — Business, not Creator. It’s free, instant, and reversible from the same screen.
  3. 3 Go back to “Edit profile” and paste the address

The “Website” field appears. Paste the full URL (with https://), save, then open your public profile to confirm it’s clickable. A link that stays grey text almost always means it went into the description.
  4. 4 Decide with the trade-off in front of you

The verifiable part: on a Business account your music library is limited to commercial-use sounds. If your videos live off trending audio, the switch has a real cost. In that case, keep your account as it is and read the next section — you’ll still sell, just less smoothly, until you hit the threshold.

Selling before you have the link

If you don’t switch, one method is left, and only one that holds up: the pinned comment. Under the video that shows your product, post a comment containing your address and pin it to the top. It sits above every other comment, including for the people who open the comments without ever reading the caption.

It isn’t clickable: your audience has to retype it. That’s exactly why length is the only lever you control. A fifteen-character address gets retyped from memory; an address with parameters, capitals and dashes doesn’t. Write it without https://, in lower case, and repeat it in three places: the pinned comment, the caption, and out loud in the video — part of your audience watches on mute and only reads captions, another part listens without reading.

How much less does it convert than a real link? Nobody can give you an honest number, and we don’t measure it. What’s certain is that every extra character is another chance to give up. If you haven’t decided what sits behind the address yet, the free “what to sell on TikTok” tool suggests three products for your niche, with a price range for each.

Which URL to put there once it works

The product page, never a homepage. Someone clicking from TikTok arrives with a precise intent and about thirty seconds of attention. If they land on a storefront index and have to search, they leave. The address in your bio should open the page that holds the title, the price and the button — nothing to look for.

One link per video, if you want to know which one sells. A single address in your bio will never tell you which video earned: you’ll see sales, not where they came from. On Novoca, each TikTok can carry its own tracking link — same destination, different attribution — and your creator dashboard shows visits and sales per video. That’s what turns “I made three sales” into “the demo sells, behind-the-scenes doesn’t”.

Your account has to be verified before you can collect. On Novoca you prove the TikTok account is yours in one of two ways: a short code to drop into your bio for a moment, or logging in with TikTok from your creator dashboard. That verification is what unlocks buying — and what stops anyone from selling under someone else’s @.

What happens after the first click

The link works, someone clicked. The rest is mechanical, and this is where creators under 1,000 followers have an edge: a small, engaged audience buys better than a big audience passing through.

  1. 1 Payment, then delivery, without you

The buyer pays by card and gets the file immediately — confirmation page and email. If the product was written inside Novoca, they can also read it online and ask the document questions. You never send anything by hand: that’s what makes the product sellable while you sleep.
  2. 2 Your first sales don’t wait for your bank details

You can sell before activating your payout account: the platform collects and pays you out once it’s connected. The limit is explicit — past three sales or €150 pending, your page pauses, and if the account is never connected, buyers get refunded. Don’t let admin delay your first video, but connect your account with the first sale.
  3. 3 The second video matters more than the first

One video reaches a fraction of your followers, once. Three videos in four days on three different angles — behind the scenes, demo, reply to a comment — is the minimum for the information to circulate. The full method fits in seven days.

For the whole mechanic — from the first “do you have a link?” comment to automatic delivery — the complete guide to selling a digital product on TikTok covers every step, and the seven-day method turns it into a day-by-day plan, whatever your niche.

Common questions.

Is a Creator account enough?+

No — and this is the most common mix-up. “Pro account” covers two things on TikTok: Creator and Business. The Business account is the one that opens the Website field with no follower minimum; on a Creator account you’re still subject to the threshold. If you switched and nothing changed, check which of the two you picked.

What do I lose by switching to a Business account?+

The concrete, documented trade-off: your sound library is limited to commercial-use music, so you lose access to popular tracks licensed for personal accounts. If a trending sound carries your videos, weigh that before you switch. The rest (analytics, tools) adds rather than removes, and the change can be undone in settings, both ways.

Does switching to Business hurt my reach?+

Nobody outside TikTok can measure that, and we don’t measure it either — so we neither claim it nor deny it. What is verifiable is the music library restriction. That’s what the decision should be based on, not an algorithm rumour.

I pasted my link from my laptop and nothing happened.+

The Website field is set from the mobile app. On tiktok.com, profile editing doesn’t offer the same fields: paste the address from your phone, then check your public profile (not the edit screen) to confirm it actually became clickable.

Does a pinned comment really work?+

It isn’t a clickable link: it’s text your audience has to retype. It converts less well than a real link — by how much, nobody can honestly tell you. What you do control is length: a fifteen-character address gets retyped, an address with parameters and capital letters doesn’t. Pin it under your most-watched video, the one where people keep asking for a link.

I passed 1,000 followers — can I switch back to a personal account?+

Yes, any time, in settings. Plenty of creators keep the pro account for the detailed analytics once they’re past the threshold — but if the sound library matters more to you than the link, switch back: at 1,000 followers a personal account opens the field too.
